Day 1

Summary: After a private transfer from Belize Airport, we will arrive at the hotel in San Ignacio and meet for a welcome briefing in the hotel conference room.

Timeline:

  • Flight lands at Belize’s Philip S.W.Goldson International Airport. (dependent on when you schedule your flight).
  • 6:30 PM Meet for a welcome briefing in the hotel conference room. 

Private transportation will be provided to go from the Belize Airport to the Ka’ana Resort or your chosen hotel in San Ignacio.

Day 2

Summary: A fun-filled day outside!

Timeline:

  • 6:30 AM Breakfast at the hotel (not included).
  • 7:30 AM Leave for the Che Chem Ha Cave
  • 8:30 AM Begin hike at the Che Chem Ha Cave.

This hike will take one hour. This cave contains a main chamber filled with rocks lined up which is believed to have been used for sacred Mayan rituals dating from the middle preclassic period (900-300BC) to the late classic period (700-850AD). Also, there are many chambers found high up within the cave which contain many large pottery vessels which may have been used to collect ‘pure water’ to be used for their rituals.

  • 9:30 AM Hike the Che Chem Ha Waterfall. (30 minutes)
  • 1:00 PM Leave for Benny’s Kitchen.
  • 2:00 PM Arrive at Benny’s Kitchen for lunch (not included).
  • 3:00 PM Leave for Cahal Pech Mayan Ruins.
  • 3:10 PM Arrive at Cahal Pech Mayan Ruins.

We will enjoy some site seeing for about two hours. Cahal Pech is a Maya site located near the town of San Ignacio in the Cayo District of Belize. The site was a palatial, hilltop home for an elite Maya family, and through the most major construction dates to the Classic period, evidence of continuous habitation has been dated to as far back as 1200 BCE during the Early Middle Formative period (Early Middle Preclassic), making Cahal Pech one of the oldest recognizably Maya sites in Western Belize.

Day 3

Summary: Today will be a full day excursion to Tikal archeological site. Don’t worry, we will handle the paper work to cross the border between Belize and Guatemala, all you have to do is enjoy the sites!

Timeline:

  • 7:30 AM Transfer from the hotel to Tikal Archeological Site.
  • 9:30 Arrive and visit the Tikal Archeological Site.

You will be able to visit here for about three hours. Tikal National Park encompasses 575 square kilometres of jungle and thousands of ruined structures. The central part of the ancient city alone contains 3,000 buildings and covers about 16 square kilometers. Tikal is also part of the one-million-hectare Maya Biosphere Reserve created in 1990 to protect the dense forests of the Peten, which started to disappear at an alarming rate due to population pressures, illegal logging and slash-and-burn agricultural practices. Archeologists estimate that the Maya settled in the area now known as Tikal in about 900 BC.

Day 4

Summary: A full day of adventures!

Timeline:

  • 8:25 AM Leave for Ajaw Chocolate.
  • 8:45 AM Arrive at Ajaw Chocolate.

Our tour session will last 45 minutes. Ajaw Chocolate’s traditional Chocolate making tour is based on a process that dates back to 2,000 B.C. and includes learning how the bean is farmed as well as how it is prepared for chocolate making. The main focus is crushing cacao beans on a Mano and Matte. They crush the beans to a paste and then dissolve it in hot water. Honey is then added as a sweetener and chile for flavoring. A second drink is prepared with this cacao paste dissolved in water and sweetened with honey but flavored with cinnamon and spice instead of chile. At the end of this session, we will share a small sample of milk and dark chocolate from Ajaw Chocolate.

  • 9:30 AM Leave for Xunantunich.
  • 10:00 AM Arrive at Xunantunich for a tour.

This tour will last two hours. Xunantunich is an Ancient Maya archaeological site in western Belize, about 70 miles (110 km) west of Belize City, in the Cayo District. Xunantunich is located atop a ridge above the Mopan River, well within sight of the Guatemala border – which is a mere 0.6 miles (1 km) to the west.

  • 12:00 PM Leave for Benny’s Kitchen.
  • 12:15 PM Arrive at Benny’s Kitchen for lunch (not included).
  • 1:00 PM Leave for Barton Creek. 
  • 1:45 PM Arrive at Barton Creek.

We will be visiting Barton Creek for one hour and 30 minutes. Barton Creek Cave is a natural cave located near San Ignacio that was once used by the ancient Maya for ceremonial activities. This cave can only be explored by canoe and is considered one of Belize’s most fascinating natural and cultural wonders. Barton Creek Cave tour. After entering the cave, you will travel approximately a mile along a meandering river flowing through the beautiful cathedral-like chambers and wide passages of the cavern.

  • 3:30 PM Leave for the hotel. 
  • 5:00 PM Arrive at the hotel and have dinner (not included).

Day 5

Summary: Starting our day early, we will travel to Lamanai Town and end our day in a new hotel.

Timeline:

  • 4:30 AM Early Breakfast at the hotel (not included).
  • 5:15 AM Leave for Tower Hill.
  • 7:30-8:00 AM Arrive at Tower Hill.
  • 8:30 AM Leave for Lamanai Ruins in a speed boat.
  • 9:45 AM Arrive at Lamanai Ruins to do some site seeing.

Lamanai (from Lama’anayin, “submerged crocodile” in Yucatec Maya) is a Mesoamerican archaeological site and was once a major city of the Maya civilization, located in the north of Belize, in Orange Walk District. The site’s name is pre-Columbian, recorded by early Spanish missionaries, and documented over a millennium earlier in Maya inscriptions as Lam’an’ain. Lamanai is renowned for its exceptionally long occupation spanning three millennia, beginning in the Early Preclassic Maya period and continuing through the Spanish and British Colonial periods, into the 20th century.[1] Unlike most Classic-period sites in the southern Maya lowlands, Lamanai was not abandoned at the end of the 10th century AD.

Each room is equipped with a kitchen and the hotel has its own restaurant. Dinner is not included.

Day 6

Summary: We will spend the day at Hol Chan. In the event that the programmed activities cannot be done in the ocean due to weather conditions, the Altun Mayan ruins tour will be available.

Timeline:

  • 6:00 AM Breakfast at the hotel (not included).
  • 8:00 AM Snorkeling Hol Chan Marine Reserve.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve is a marine reserve close to Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, off the coast of Belize. It covers approximately 18 km² (4,448 acres) of coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove forest. Hol Chan is Mayan for “little channel”. Hol Chan is home to sharks, manta rays, coral gardens, sea horses, and tarpon fish.

  • 10:30 AM Free time.
  • 7:00 AM Altun Mayan Ruins Tour (If weather conditions do not allow for Hol Chan Snorkeling).

Altun Ha is the name given to the ruins of an ancient Mayan city in Belize, located in the Belize District about 50 kilometers (31 mi) north of Belize City and about 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) west of the shore of the Caribbean Sea. The site covers an area of about 8 square kilometers (3.1 sq mi).

Day 7

Summary: Take a trip to the Great Blue hole before you enjoy some free time!

Timeline:

  • 8:00 AM Breakfast at the hotel (not included).
  • 9:30 AM Transfer from hotel to airport.
  • 10:30 AM Flight for The Great Blue Hole Tour.

We visit the Great Blue Hole via a scenic flight where you will enjoy a stunning and breathtaking view of this amazing marvel. The Great Blue Hole is a giant marine sinkhole off the coast of Belize. It lies near the center of Lighthouse Reef, a small atoll 70 km (43 mi) from the mainland and Belize City. The hole is circular in shape, 318 m (1,043 ft) across and 124 m (407 ft) deep.

  • 11:30 AM Arrive back at the airport to transfer to the hotel.
  • 12:00 PM Arrive at the hotel for free time.

Day 8

Summary: Today, we spend the day in utter relaxation at the hotel and enjoy a 4 hour fishing tour!

Timeline:

  •  Relax at the hotel.
  • 8:00 AM Pick up at hotel dock for a 4 hour fishing tour. 

We can fish for snapper and barracuda. The trip includes water, fishing gear, and bait.

Day 9

Summary: Time to head back home.

Timeline:

  • Leave hotel for the harbor (dependent on when you schedule your flight home).
  • Arrive at the harbor and transfer to the airport.
  • Arrive at Belize City Airport.
